The future of the building

Our proposals at-a-glance

Retaining the majority of the existing building’s structure, avoiding the disruption and carbon cost associated with wholesale demolition and redevelopment.

Reconfigure the upper two storeys to deliver additional high-quality, wellbeing-focused workspace, aligned with the City of London Corporation’s target to deliver at least 1.2 million square metres of new office floorspace by 2040.

Transition the building to an all-electric operation with enhanced sustainability performance.

Introduce additional urban greening to support biodiversity and contribute to improved local air quality.

Re-provide and enhance the building’s principal entrance to improve legibility and connectivity with the Elizabeth Line at Farringdon Station’s Eastern Ticket Hall (Smithfield).

Introduce active ground floor uses along Aldersgate Street, including the provision of retail space and provide a new public toilet along the Aldersgate Street frontage, addressing the current closure of the existing facility on Long Lane.
